The night that the RAs had their last staff dinner for the 2005 school year, the RA on-call for the South Tower found an abandoned Siamese kitten in the halls. Well, maybe not a kitten, because it appeared to be very pregnant. The tiny, starving cat was friendly and trusting, despite being blind in one eye. Lore, the South Tower HC, told the RA on-call to call the Humane Society or Animal Rescue Center or some organization that never showed up.
The cat was kept in a box on the patio. My dad had planned to drive to Austin the next day to help me move out of my room and to take most of my stuff back to Corpus. (I still had almost two weeks of staying in Austin to check residents out before me, not to mention graduation). It didn't surprise me when my dad decided to drive up that night, a day early unannounced. We hauled stuff to the car, and the pregnant cat started to follow us. My dad already has a soft spot for our Siamese cat, Tinker. This was another Siamese cat expecting more in a matter of...minutes, days? She was hugely pregnant.
He called her UT, and said he wondered if he could make it back to Corpus before she delivered any little Texas Exes. My dad took a risk and drove the cat home. UT gave birth two weeks later, before I graduated and moved back home for the summer. The kittens all live with different families in different areas now, but UT is still hooking 'em back home with my parents and sister.
And here she is... (UT's the one not wearing the diaper).
