I'm having a quick conference with Sal, one of my most charming, if confused, students.
Me: Sal, do you know what text you're going to choose for your fluency assessment? You're going to have to read it out loud.
Sal: Yeah.
Me: What have you chosen?
Sal: Uh... [He smiles and his eyes dart to a bin of magazines for kids.]
Me: It's next week. You have to start practicing. Have you chosen anything?
Sal: Yeah, a poem.
Me: What poem?
Sal: Some poem about birds and bees. From the Internet.
Me: About the birds and the bees?
Sal: Some birds and some bees. And motion.
Me: Motion? Like movement?
Sal: [He looks at me like I'm crazy.] No, like feelings.
